چکیده

We investigate new routing and wavelength assignment algorithms considering as constraints physical impairments that arise in transparent networks. Accounting both linear and nonlinear impairments we propose a scheme that integrates the routing and wavelength assignment to achieve an optimal combination of physical and networking performance. Through simulations of a typical long haul network the improvement achieved using the proposed approach compared to conventional RWA algorithms (i.e shortest path and first fit) is demonstrated and the significance of impairment aware routing and wavelength assignment schemes is recognized.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Cross-Layer Optimization Issues for Realizing Transparent Mesh Optical Networks

In transparent optical networks as the signal propagates through a transparent network it experiences the impact of a variety of quality degrading phenomena that are introduced by different types of signal distortions. In this chapter we present a new optical networking paradigm for mesh topology, in which the impact of physical layer impairments are considered in lightpath routing (routing and...

DICONET: future generation transparent networking with dynamic impairment awareness

Transparent networks are widely seen as the prime candidates for the core network technology of the future. These networks provide ultra high speed end-to-end connectivity with high quality of service and failure resiliency. A downside of transparency is the accumulation of physical impairments over long distances, which are difficult to mitigate using physical-layer techniques only, and the no...

Routing and Wavelength Assignment in GMPLS-based 10 Gb/s Ethernet Long Haul Optical Networks with and without Linear Dispersion Constraints

Given a set of lightpath connection requests in an all-10 Gb/s optical dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) Ethernet network, lightpaths are designed. In addition the wavelength channels are assigned subject to minimization of the channel blocking and provisional requests satisfying the limits due to accumulative linear dispersion effects over the hops. This paper proposes a routing and...
